The grant agreement of this project was signed on 24th April 2019 between Dai-ichi Life Insurance (Cambodia) PLC. and Japan Heart Children’s Medical Center. Under this agreement, the Company will sponsor certain hospital equipment, such as, a patient monitor and a pediatric stretcher and surgical costs for more than 100 patients every year with the aim of improving the quality of treatment and health care services for the children and other patients to be treated in this Hospital.

Mr. Allen Thai, Chief Executive Officer of Dai-ichi Life Cambodia said: “Parallel to our business development, Dai-ichi Life believes in contributing back to the community in which we operate. This helps build a sustainable society and economy. Today’s ceremony underscores our commitment to helping improve the lives of Cambodian. Dai-ichi Life’s journey in Cambodia is for long-term. We are ready to serve and meet the life insurance needs of Cambodian. We do so: “By your side, for life.”

Mr. Yusuke Horiuchi, the Managing Director of Japan Heart Cambodia said: “Japan Heart Children’s Medical Center is the only NGO which cooperates and integrates with public hospital. We have got along with the Ponhea Leu Referral Hospital since we opened our medical center in 2016. We focus on treating pediatric severe diseases, mainly childhood cancer. Do you know the survival rate of childhood cancer in developed countries? It is 80%. Unfortunate 20% of patients will die. On the other hand, only 20% at most can survive in this country because Cambodia is facing difficulties in treating childhood cancer due to the lack of specialists and resources in the hospital. And today, this stretcher and monitor are donated by Dai-ichi Life. These will significantly support the treatment of not only cancer but also other pediatric diseases.”

Dr. Maiko Kojiro, Hospital Project Director of Japan Heart Children’s Medical Center said “This Hospital has a growing number of pediatric patients from many provinces in Cambodia. The treatments we provide at Japan Heart Children’s Medical Center are free of charge. Therefore, financially poor parents can send their children suffering from cancer and other critical conditions here to be treated without worries. We are committed to helping restore health and happiness to these children.”
